The safety rules come first
Smooooth Operator is not a racing game. Nothing in it is timed against another driver, and driving faster cannot improve your score. The score is 45% smoothness, 25% control, 20% pace and 10% legal compliance — and pace measures how close you were to the road's calm reference pace, so a drive that finishes sooner than that scores lower, not higher. Driving faster than the law allows lowers your score again. Driving aggressively lowers your score. There is no clock and no rival on screen while you drive.
By using the app you agree that you will:
- never interact with the app while the vehicle is moving;
- mount your phone before starting a run;
- obey every traffic law, speed limit and signal;
- not speed or drive aggressively to improve a score — it cannot;
- stop a run at any time if conditions require it.
You are responsible for your driving. Always. Nothing in this app is an instruction to drive in any particular way, and a score is never a reason to break a law or take a risk.
Eligibility
You must hold a valid driving licence and be legally permitted to drive the vehicle you use. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.
Scores and verification
Every run is scored on our servers, not on your phone, and the server's score is the one that counts. Runs that cannot be verified — implausible physics, a manipulated clock, a simulated location, leaving the course — are kept and shown to you but are not ranked.
A run that crosses the start line already at speed is also not ranked. It is not cheating and it is not treated as cheating; a run-up is simply not a smooth start, and it cannot be compared fairly against one made from the line.
We may remove a score from a leaderboard if it was obtained by manipulating the app, the device, or its sensors.
Subscriptions
Smooooth Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. It renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings — we cannot cancel it for you, and we never see your payment details.
Refunds are handled by Apple under their terms.
Your content
Courses you create and runs you record remain yours. You give us permission to store them, to score them, and to show the parts other drivers are allowed to see — your username, scores and, if you allow it, your ghost.
Acceptable use
Do not create courses on private property you have no right to use, on closed roads, or anywhere a timed run would be dangerous. Do not attempt to falsify runs, scrape the service, or interfere with other drivers' accounts.
Availability
The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or discontinue features. Where the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the previous twelve months.
The daily road game
The daily road at smoooothoperator.com/play is a free browser game set on fictional, computer-generated roads.
- It is a game, not driving instruction. Nothing in it is advice about how to drive a real vehicle, and the safety rules above apply in full whenever you drive for real.
- Game scores are game scores. They are calculated with the same scoring as the app, plus game-only rules for lanes and traffic, but they are not app scores, are not linked to any app account, and are not ranked anywhere.
- Car names are descriptive. The cars in the game are named after the real production cars their physics approximates. That does not mean any manufacturer is affiliated with or endorses the game, and no logos or badges are used.
- Ghost links are yours to share. A shared link contains the drive you made and the optional name you set. Anyone you send it to can drive alongside it. Do not put anything in that name you would not want the recipient to see.
- Fair play. Do not attempt to disrupt the site or to pass off a link that was altered as someone's drive — the game replays every ghost and marks one whose score does not check out.
- Advertising. The website may show third-party ads, which are the advertisers' own; see the privacy policy.
- As is. The game is provided free and as it is, and it may change or be withdrawn at any time.
